Frequently Asked Questions
❓ What should I wear to a Pilates session?
Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows for full range of motion. While Pilates can be practiced in bare feet, at Nurture Pilates we require that you wear grippy socks. At this time, we do not sell socks.
❓ What’s the difference between reformer and mat Pilates?
Mat Pilates is more difficult to do with precision than Pilates on the various apparatus. Jospeh Pilates invented his apparatus, including the Reformer, the Tower, and the Chair, to prepare his beginner clients for his mat program. Mat Pilates uses your body weight on a mat, while reformer Pilates involves a spring-based machine that provides resistance or support. Both build core strength and flexibility, but the reformer adds variety and feedback.
❓ Do you offer sessions for beginners?
Yes! We know what is like to be beginners ourselves! We welcome absolute beginners and will tailor each session to your needs, experience, and goals. Whether you're new to movement or transitioning from another fitness style, you're in good hands.
❓ Is Pilates appropriate for men?
Absolutely. In fact, Pilates was invented by a man for men. Pilates is excellent for men — especially for improving flexibility, core strength, and injury prevention. We offer private sessions specifically geared toward men’s anatomy and goals.
❓ Can I do Pilates while pregnant?
Yes. We specialize in pre- and postnatal Pilates. Sessions during pregnancy focus on posture, breathing, and pelvic stability. Movements are carefully modified to support each stage of pregnancy.
❓ How soon after giving birth can I start Pilates again?
Every body is different, but many clients return 6–8 weeks postpartum (with medical clearance). We offer gentle, supportive movement that helps with recovery, alignment, and reconnecting with your core.
❓ Do you offer Pilates for menopause or perimenopause?
Yes. We offer Pilates sessions tailored to support hormonal changes, bone density, joint stability, and pelvic floor function. These sessions are great for managing symptoms and staying strong through midlife and beyond.
❓ What is pelvic floor Pilates?
Pelvic floor Pilates focuses on strengthening and releasing the muscles that support the bladder, uterus, and bowel. It's beneficial for postpartum recovery, menopause, and also for just being able to stand up straight. We integrate this work into all of our sessions.
